We're building an OpenAI-compatible LLM gateway whose only job is to make every token you send cheaper — without changing the model, the SDK, or the quality of the answer.
Why we're building it
Every team we talked to was paying directly through OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google — and a growing number were paying through OpenRouter for the convenience of a single key. Both were still leaving a lot of money on the table: the same exact request, sent through a smarter pipe, can cost half as much.
We thought that was strange. So we built Smouter — a drop-in replacement for the OpenAI API that routes every request through four layers of savings, including live provider pricing that can land up to 50% under OpenRouter on the same model.
What we believe
- Same model, same code. If we change the answer you'd get, we've failed. Smouter is a price layer, not a re-write.
- Pay per token. No subscription, no minimums, no annual commit. You only pay for what you send through.
- Make the savings legible. Every request shows what it would've cost on the listed provider — so the bill is never a mystery.
Where we are
